What a night of celebration we had at Ballara last Thursday. A fitting FUN wrap-up of what has been a bumper year of Service and fellowship for Eltham Rotary under David McFarlane’s leadership. As David said, we often bury our heads in the fundraising side and do not reflect enough on the great life-changing effects of our support to disadvantaged people in our local community and overseas. We can be justly proud that Eltham Rotary has truly been “A Gift to the World” in 2015-16.
Margot Kilcullen and Ross McDonald certainly deserved their recognition as Paul Harris Fellows. Club Service Awards recognised Gary Williams, for his years of work bringing together the weekly program, and Jim Phillips for his decades as Bulletin Editor. Ash McFarlane was also awarded a certificate for his enthusiasm and support of Eltham and he won our hearts with his sincere speech of thanks and good wishes for the incoming team.
With Gary’s unique fun style as MC and the music of “Spit the Dummy” we rocked, rolled and welcomed-in the new Rotary Year with gusto and raised funds for Guide Dogs Victoria Children’s Mobility program in the process.
It was a great honour for me to be inducted as the 44th President of THE Rotary Club of Eltham and I will do my best to ensure we have a fun and rewarding year for all members. In 2016-17 our team of 57 active Rotarians will carry the momentum of success forward, lead by 13 enthusiastic Board members. The Rotary International theme for the year is simply “Rotary – Serving Humanity” and Eltham will see tangible evidence of this through our local and international service programs and projects. We will discuss these further at Club Assembly on 21 June.
I look forward to our meeting on Thursday when we celebrate NAIDOC week and consider what ‘reconciliation’ means in Nillumbik.

Come along to President Kevin's intro for the year, and to start the year off and also in recognition of NAIDOC week the Club has arranged an interesting speaker. Jeanette Aitken is the President of the Nillumbik Reconciliation Group and also President of CAVE which is a group the Club supports.
Jeanette will give a thought provoking presentation on issues and activities the Reconciliation Group in Nillumbik are involved in.
Our Chair this week is Ian Kiddle and Fine Master Rob Kilcullen.

The Changeover Night raffle raised much needed funds for Guide Dogs Victoria Childrens Mobility Services.
Orientation and mobility training enables children to enhance their confidence, develop age-appropriate skills and achieve their potential in all aspects of life. Individual programs, camps, group programs, consultant services and workshops are all provided free of charge.
