As a group we are a resourceful lot, good at solving problems. And that's what a group of some 60 Eltham Rotarians and partners/friends did when we ventured out to Research to enjoy the Eltham Little Theatre's production of 'Murder’s in the Heir' on 23 November. An interactive whodunnit, the production asked the audience to name the culprit at interval, then acted out the solving of the mystery. Many thanks to Eltham Little Theatre for such an enjoyable evening and thanks to Alison Cooper for suggesting and organising the event.
Now that most of us have recovered from Festival 2017, it's time to reflect on the event, its planning, successes and improvements needed for next year. Jill sent everyone a festival survey and the festival team would appreciate everyone taking time to send in your thoughts before the debrief meeting on 5 December. This week we will hold our Annual General Meeting on Thursday prior to our normal weekly meeting. I will announce the 2019-20 President Elect Nominee and PE Jill will outline some of the key office bearers for the 2018-19 Rotary year. Treasurer Lou will also present the accounts for the past Rotary year. Can I please remind members that only financial members are entitled to vote at the AGM so if paying your Club Dues has slipped your mind, please pay (by EFT or at the desk on Thursday,) before the meeting or see Lou to make payment arrangements.
In another busy Rotary week for Boardies, the Board will meet on Wednesday evening at Alison’s place. We will provide everyone with a half year update on service projects early in the New Year.
The news on Macca is more encouraging. He is making slow but steady progress and is alert and bright. He is still receiving only family visitors. We sent him a card (made by Kevin Hadingham- thanks Kevin), with photos of Eltham Rotarians inside. Marlene reports that Macca loved it. Cheers,

Members we are back to Heidelberg Golf Club after a great night out last week at the Eltham Little Theatre production of Murder's in the Heir. It was great to see a good number of members enjoying the night and bringing along supper to share on the tables. Gunner obviously dressed for the occasion with his coming straight from cricket practice!
This week will be I'm sure just as much fun with the 2017 Annual General Meeting to be held prior to the always entertaining 'Mr and Mrs Snags' evening. This is brought to you by the Community Service committee and is a bit of fun for the end of the year.

The Festival Committee is now in review mode, capturing some thoughts and reflections about the 2017 festival which will help the 2018 committee to plan the next festival. We surveyed some community participants on the Sunday, the stallholders and Rotarians.

If you haven’t given us your feedback yet then please do this by retrieving the emailed survey, completing, scanning and returning to Jill or Ann. In August/September 2017, efforts by Aussie Aid Abroad and the Rotary Club of Lumbini Siddharthanagar in southern Nepal to import Aquaboxes to support flood victims in Nepal and northern India were unsuccessful due to customs restrictions imposed by the Nepalese government. To overcome similar issues in future, an initiative has been launched to establish further relationships with Rotary clubs and other NGOs in key regions, to ensure that Aquaboxes can be readily supplied in the event of a disaster. This may include the facility to pre-position Aquaboxes in these areas. Initial regions to be targeted are Cebu in the Philippines and Kolkata (Calcutta) in northern India.
In late October 2017, the Rotary Club of Phnom Penh shipped over 90 pre-positioned Aquaboxes to aid flood victims in Banteay Meanchey Province, north-west Cambodia. A further 120 'Family' boxes will be shipped to the club in May 2018, to be on hand prior to the next rainy season.
There are currently 158 'Family' Aquaboxes stored at the Aquabox Shed, ready for immediate dispatch in the event of a disaster, with a further 60 'Family' and 24 '30' boxes to be prepared on a packing day planned for 3 December '17.
