We must have the Rolls Royce of BBQ trailers! Hasn’t it changed since we borrowed Ken Paynter’s rusting 6 x 4? The demo last Thursday night really showed how members’ safety has been paramount in the development of the trailer, particularly minimising manual handling. Thank you to Graham, Alan, Ron, Howard, John O’C and Mike W for your generosity and all the work you have put in to make sizzling sausages safe and streamlined. It’s a fundraising project of which we can be justly proud. Maybe the queues of people are lining up to pay $2.50 to see the trailer in action and to receive a complimentary sausage!
Despite the cold evening, many members commented that it was refreshing to turn the meeting routine on its head and have some activity first, followed by dinner at The Common. This may be worth considering for some other nights? In life’s priorities, family always comes first and the same applies in the ‘family of Rotary’. Jules and Judy can be assured of our prayers and support at this challenging time of medical diagnosis and treatments. Looking forward to welcoming Andrew Follows this week. Although visually impaired, he is a successful photographer, partly due to the mobility and independence achieved with his guide dog and GDV support. Fittingly, we will also donate the Changeover raffle proceeds to Guide Dogs Victoria on the night to support their life-changing Children’s Mobility program.
This week we welcome local Eltham photographer Andrew Follows. Andrew is a photographer that is blind totally in one eye. He has created through his photography a unique outlook on the world, created amazing photos, using the camera to document the world around him, Andrew’s photographs are professional, unique and inspiring. The lens becomes his eyes, the shutter his very existence, the computer his medium of vision enabling him for the first time to see the world more clearly.
Andrew has not let his lack of eyesight stop him. He is an inspiring photographer with a social conscience, who is establishing himself within the arts community. Andrew has an eye condition called Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP), a condition which has rendered one eye completely blind with ever diminishing tunnel vision in the other. He can see three metres to most people’s seventy metres, and that through a foggy haze.
Andrew Follows with his Guide Dog, Eamon, have a great partnership and passion for photography. They explore the city looking for great objects to investigate and photograph, and he will be bringing along some of his work to the club meeting on 21 July.
In the last five years Andrew has exhibited his works in numerous galleries in Melbourne and Sydney, exhibited in the 2012 Edinburgh Art Festival, New Zealand and Luxembourg along with numerous publications. Andrew was awarded the 2012 Arts Access Australia Peoples Choice award, for one of his stunning photographs.
So come along to the meeting, bring your partner or friend and meet Andrew and Eamon and hear his story and their exciting journey as he and his best friend explore the world in the visual medium.

The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is a 3-part series of fast-paced, interactive, one-day courses offered to refine a Rotarian's leadership skills and increase their base of knowledge in Rotary. The next Part 1 RLI training session is on Sunday, 7th August 2016, 9am to 1.30pm at Euroa Secondary College, Euroa.
