27 April 2017
Last Thursday’s ‘birthday bash’ gave an insight into some of the personalities and perspiration which over 44 years have contributed to the evolution of the club we enjoy today. I was not able to attend, but I had a phone chat with PP Neville Emerson on Friday and it was interesting to hear his comparisons of the demographics of club membership in 1973 and 2017.

However the inputs into our little piece of club history pale into insignificance when compared with the ultimate sacrifice of our service personnel in armed conflicts and their contribution to the evolution and security of our nation. It is an honour for our club to facilitate the Eltham dawn service for the RSL each year. Congratulations to Rob and Ken for their excellent management of this program for the Eltham community.

This week we hear from a returned soldier from Afghanistan and the ongoing impacts of that experience on his life. Time also to consider how we might work with the RSL to promote the Australian Rotary Health research into Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Regards, President Kevin

This Week at Rotary
Our speaker this week is Glen Ferrarotto, a veteran of the Afghanistan Campaign having deployed with the Australian Special Operations Task Group, enlisted in1997 and served for 10 years in the Australian Regular Army.

Glen is the Founder and Executive Director of local business Ironside Recruitment, a Veteran and Emergency Services Employment Agency which has been pioneering the way for ex-service personnel to access civilian employment opportunities across multiple industries for more than 5 years.

Glen has recently become the Senior Vice President of the Montmorency Eltham RSL.

Chairman for the evening is Ian Toohill
Finemaster to be confirmed

Resignation of Max Lee
Max Lee has made a significant contribution to Rotary with over 26 years of active membership, including 21 years at the Rotary Club of Eltham and 5 years at the Rotary Club of Malvern.  After much soul searching and review of his activities, commitments and motivations, Max has decided to resign from the club. Max has emphasised to me that he is keen to maintain his friendships with Eltham Rotarians, to come as a visitor to occasional club meetings and to assist as a volunteer on the BBQ and other activities.

We all recognise Max’s substantial contributions to the club and our service projects, particularly Aquabox in recent years and we know that he will continue to be a valuable Friend of Rotary through the years ahead. We look forward to catching up with Max in June on his return from his current trip to Port Macquarie.
