Welcome to the new Rotary year under the worldwide leadership of Australian PDG Ian Riseley and under the banner of Rotary Making a Difference.. I’m looking forward to the next 12 months as your President and to working with you all to Make A Difference both in our own community, and internationally. Thank you all once again for your warm expressions of support and offers of assistance.
We celebrated the successes of the year past and the promises of the year to come in style at Changeover last Thursday. Some 100 people enjoyed good food, good fellowship and celebrated the results of their service through Rotary, then danced the night away to the swinging style of the Brian Fitzgerald trio. Thanks to PE Jill Ramsay who skilfully managed the smooth running of the evening as MC, to Ann Lynch for taking care of all the organisational details and Dale Atkins for sorting out the audio visual hiccups (and taking photos). Thanks also to Jenny Kelly for her lovely table decorations (who noticed that they were in suffragette colours?) Irene Cant organised the raffle which raised $720 towards Australian Rotary Health/RSL Post Traumatic Stress Disorder project.
During the evening, then President Kevin presented a cheque for $2000 to the Diamond Valley Learning Centre representatives Veronica Kiora (CEO) and Tracey Wood (VCAL Co-ordinator).
Congratulations Kevin on a very successful 2016-17. Kevin produced a powerpoint showing all the work of the past year including the completion of 3300 hours of volunteer service, support for over 40 organisations and the donation of $70,000 to local and international programs. Congratulations to recipients of Paul Harris Fellows: PP Ian Thomas (Sapphire recipient), Judy Sharp and Kerry Skinner whose families were all present to witness this recognition of their commitment to our Club and the community.
The weekly program gets off to a flying start this month with some topical presentations and thanks to Alison Cooper, John O’Callaghan and Michael Englefield who have been working hard to arrange a program with interesting and varied speakers. Alison and John would welcome any of your ideas for the Club Program so please let them know about any contacts you have with people/organisations who have an interesting story to share.

Andrew is well known to club members as the voice of the Rotary Eltham Festival and is also the better half of one of our club members - Alison.
Andrew is presenting to the club this week on a topic very near and dear to all of us - Superannuation, Centrelink, and retirement planning. He will assist us in making sense of these recent changes . (How you may be affected, and some tips on how to deal with them).
Come along with your questions and find out how these changes may effect you. A great opportunity to invite family and friends to learn about this important topic.
The following is the text of MC Jill Ramsay's tribute to our immediate Past Presidential couple Kevin and Marion Hadingham:
Kevin, as the 44th President, you have done a great job in steering the good ship Rotary Club of Eltham over the last 12 months. You’ve chaired our weekly club meetings, you’ve chaired the monthly board meetings and you’ve been a great ambassador for RCE. It’s never easy being a leader; however, you have done a great job and have kept us all on track and focussed on what Rotary does best – serving community, helping others out and having a bit of fun along the way. Congratulations on a great year and thank you President Kevin!
And to Marion who has quietly and patiently put up with Kevin's often time-consuming Rotary commitments, and for your wonderful support of the Muskaan project for the last eight years, we do appreciate and thank you for your terrific support. Particularly considering your not so healthy year with two hip replacements! Hopefully though, with a bit more freedom, you can now escape to the holiday house at Sandy Point and have a much healthier time in the years ahead.
On behalf of the RCE board and members, it is our pleasure to present you with our tokens of appreciation and say thank you for the wonderful work you have done in the last Rotary year.
