Hi all. Following the vote to move to Heidelberg Golf Club, Jill and I met up last week with Lindsay Bell, the General Manager of HGC to formalise an agreement for the next 12 months. Lindsay has agreed to meet our requirements including a quality two course meal at the current price, use of the Bryn Teg room (the smaller room), a built in sound system, and storage facilities for our meeting paraphernalia. We also met up with Kevin Cortesao, owner of Third Chapter and advised him of developments. Lindsay is to get back to me regarding a convenient start date.
In the meantime, because of the Eltham night market, we will not meet at Third Chapter on 26 October. Stay tuned for further developments on what is planned for that day.
October 10 is World Mental Health Day. This year Mental Health Week will run from Sunday 8th to Saturday 14th October and is aimed at raising awareness of mental health issues, promoting mental wellbeing, furthering knowledge about mental health and eliminating the stigma surrounding mental illness. This year, Australian Rotary Health has organised for Rotary Clubs around Australia to hold stalls at Bunnings stores. Thank you to Alan McCleary who has negotiated with Bunnings Eltham and to everyone who has volunteered to staff the stall on Sunday 8 October. Australian Rotary Health has supplied us with stickers and posters on their 'Lift the Lid on Mental Illness' campaign for us to give out and we will also have our own Club promotional brochures.
Les than six weeks to go till festival - what a scary thought - and much to do in that time! Have a great week.

Advanced Care Planning - planning for your future health care
On Thursday we welcome to our club meeting Veronica Spillane and Jenny McQuirk from the Austin Health. They are both volunteers who deliver advanced care planning education and aim to explain the essentials of planning for your future health care in advance, and to start the conversation between yourself and your family.
Advance care planning is a process of planning for future health and personal care whereby a person's values, beliefs, and preferences are made known so they can guide clinical decision making at a future time when that person cannot make or communicate their decisions.
Judy Sharp: The new venue for our meetings will be the Heidelberg Golf Club – no dates yet as arrangements still being finalised. The Jagajaga Community Sports Awards 2017 will be presented at Eltham High School on Thurs 12 Oct. Jenny Macklin MP has advised that RC Eltham has been recognised for its community contribution to sport including our involvement in this area at the Festival. Judy will attend a cocktail party on Sat 7 Oct as part of the launch of the newly refurbished Eltham Community and Reception Centre.
Dale Atkins: Please complete form being circulated re the Kinglake Melbourne Cup function on Tues 7 Nov which will once again support Aquabox.
Alan McCleary: During October’s Mental Health Month, Australian Rotary Health will encourage Rotarians and the general public to become involved in Lift the Lid on Mental Illness - be at Bunnings on weekend of 7/8 Oct to support this initiative. Catholic Care, which is supporting refugee families at St Vincent’s, is planning a Christmas party at Edenvale from 4.00 to 7.30 pm on Friday 1 Dec. Volunteers needed to assist with BBQ.
Ian Toohill: The big event, Wheelchair for Kids, on 15 Sept was a fantastic success despite the appalling weather. With funds raised on the night, by the school, by Rotary - and then doubled by a generous benefactor - the total raised is approximately $11,000. Thanks to all who supported this great cause.
Brett Linsell: Would be encouraging to see members of RC Eltham at Rotaractor’s meetings at Eltham Hotel on Monday evenings.
Jules Aussems: A few places still available at New Year’s Eve night at RACV Club – always a great night with food, wine, dancing and fireworks
Alison Cooper: Need to finalise theatre bookings for Thurs 23 Nov. This will replace club meeting for that night. Will set up TRY bookings for payments. Tables of 6 x and BYO nibbles and drinks.
Jill Ramsay: Paul Kelly must have final information re availability at Festival including that of partners who can assist. All need Working with Children Checks in order to participate
In 2016 members of the Eltham Rotary Club participated in the Year 10 Careers Program. We have been invited back for 2017. If any Rotarian wishes to be involved in the program please email Brett Linsell ( bl@sthelena.vic.edu.au) to secure your spot.
The nature of the program is that Year 10 students prepare a CV for a fictional job and are interviewed for the position. Rotarians act as the employer/panel member interviewing the students. The interviews are being held on Monday 25th Oct, Thursday 2nd Nov and Friday 3rd Nov. The school will accommodate your availability and hours. Any further queries please see Brett Linsell.
