President's Message
What a fun night in Rio! Alison and Mike E. must have searched high and low to secure the services of such a high profile sports commentator and those expired Olympic champions! - all before an audience of ‘athletes’ and officials from a multitude of sports. It certainly showcased the diversity of personality types in our club and the fact that we can have a great time and entertain ourselves.
 
Johny and Mamiko from the Rotary Club of Hondo, Japan are always welcome and we really appreciated them coming to ‘Rio in Eltham’ to accept the torch for the 2020 games in Tokyo. Wonderful to share the Australian experiences of Yuho, our current Japanese exchange student, together with his generous host family Peter and Julianne Roberts, Amelia and Evie. Clearly, there’s an exciting adventure ahead for Grace Millers as she heads to her exchange to Japan in November. The stories of Yuho and Amelia underline the value of this important youth program of Eltham Rotary.
 
The Aquabox team continues to kick goals. Brett Linsell facilitated 3 groups of International Studies students from St Helena SC on Thursday morning to see the project at Brisbane Street. In the afternoon CEO Stuart Burdack, Mayor, Cr Bronnie Hattam and Cr Helen Coleman from Nillumbik Shire Council attended, together with Michael Loccisano, Director of Hallmarc Developments. They were impressed by the breadth and depth of the Aquabox project. Highlight was when I accepted an $11,000 cheque for Eltham Rotary from Michael Loccisano. This is the initial payment of $60,000 club sponsorship over 3 years, particularly targeted to reduce the costs of accommodation. We look forward to a mutually beneficial relationship with Hallmarc and ENSA.

“Ford Consumer Experience Movement" – Roma O’Callaghan
 
This week we welcome Roma O'Callaghan who is going to present on Ford's "Consumer Experience Movement", what it is and how it is working to improve the financial bottom line through improving the engagement of team members.
 
Roma is going to share with us the essence of Ford’s Consumer Experience Movement - how improving team culture leads to long term profits; and how working with the leaders helps develop vital people management skills.  She’ll leave us all with her most used leadership tip which is a valuable tool beyond, as much as at work!
 
Chairperson for the meeting is John O’Callaghan (TBC) and Finemaster is Paul Kelly.

Reports from the floor:
  1. Kevin Hadingham: Commended the Aquabox team for their presentations to Vicki Ward MP, groups of students from St Helena S/C, and a team from Nillumbik Council including the CEO and Mayor. Sincere thanks also to Ian Kiddle for bringing about the very generous financial contribution from Hallmarc Developments – see President’s report.
  2. Ian Toohill: $10,500 was raised for Wheelchairs for Kids – 50 chairs going to East Timor. Interact are organising a fundraising dinner dance for ‘Doctors without Borders’ on 9 Sept.
  3. Alison Cooper: Guest speaker next week will be Roma O’Callaghan which we look forward to.
  4. David McFarlane: Special chair for the young man in Greensborough will be here in six weeks.
  5. Brett Linsell: Rotaractors’ trivia night coming up soon.
  6. Lou Bolzonello: Please pay subscriptions. Still some Entertainment Books left at $65.
  7. Jules Aussems: Remember New Year’s Eve celebration – 13 x tickets remaining.
A report given on the Montmorency S/C’s Exchange Program with Japan. The current exchange student Yuho, whose goal is to be an English teacher, was introduced. Host is Amelia – a past exchange student. The 2016/17 exchange student to Japan, Grace Millers, was also introduced. Yuho was pleased to win the raffle!

John Craven was recently honoured as a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotaract District 9800
 
"John has been a key member of Rotaract in Victoria for seven years. 
Along with his incredible supportive attributes John has also adopted many leadership roles within Rotaract, from being President of the Diamond Valley Rotaract Club and as his current role as District Rotaract Representative for District 9790, he has been pivotal in guiding the direction of not only his district Rotaract goals but also the current/future activities of Rotaract Australia."

A letter of thanks has been  received from CAVE (Community and Volunteers of Eltham acknowledging our recent donation of $1,800.  The donation will contribute to four students in Year 6 at Eltham Primary Schools receiving a studentship to assist in the payment of secondary school expenses in Year 7.
